Sooner Late Models ready for first ever visit to Tulsa Speedway

by John Rittenoure - TULSA, Okla. (August 22, 2021) - Through 17 Complete Well Testing Sooner Late Model Series events across four states this season, 11 drivers have found their way to victory lane. And only two have recorded multiple victories.

However, all eyes will be focused on Kip Hughes of Enid and 18-year old Hayden Ross of Muskogee this Friday when the Sooner Series comes to the New Tulsa Speedway for the very first time.

Hughes and Ross have been battling for the series points lead all season and young Ross has been holding down the top spot most of the year. But two weeks ago Hughes drove to his sixth win of the season at Oklahoma Sports Park in Ada and moved into the points lead for the first time this season in his quest for a fourth straight championship.

The two are only separated by 10 points and will resume their battle on the new Tulsa quarter mile oval, a track that neither has yet to set foot on, come Friday night. They will be joined by a host of area competitors making their first visit to Tulsa.

Only two area late model drivers have previewed the Tulsa quarter-mile. Tulsa area driver Jason Redman hot lapped his late model on two occasions and last Friday Jay Sale of Edmond raced in modified competition.

Factory Stocks, B-Mods and Dwarf Cars will also be racing.

Pit gates open at 4 p.m., grandstands at 5 and racing will get underway at 8.

Tulsa Speedway is located on the grounds of Tulsa Raceway Park at 3101 N. Garnett Rd, Tulsa.

About Sooner Late Model Series
The Sooner Late Model Series was formed in 2016 by Enid Speedway co-promoter Mark Brill. Brill felt there was not many opportunities for late model competitors to race in Oklahoma and the Sooner Late Model Series was formed. Now the series has grown beyond the borders of Oklahoma with events held in the neighboring states of Kansas, Texas and Arkansas as well.
