Shebester adapts quickly, wins OCRS feature at Tulsa Speedway

by John Rittenoure - TULSA, Okla. (September 10, 2021) - Steven Shebester paid his first visit to the New Tulsa Speedway on Friday and he liked what he saw. A quarter-mile mile oval with tight turns that rewards a driver for his skill behind the wheel.

Once on the track Shebester adapted quickly and picked up his fifth AmeriFlex / OCRS IMCA Sprint Car victory of the season.

“I like going to tracks I have never been too,” Shebester of his visit to Tulsa Speedway. “It is definitely a paper clip shape. Down the straightaways is fast and the turns are real tight. It made for good racing.

“The track was decent tonight. It is a drivers track. If you go high you have to be careful or you will go into the wall. If you run low you have to pedal it.”

Shebester started outside second row in the 30-lap feature and drove around Noah Harris for the lead after just a couple of laps. Shebester raced unchallenged the rest of the way although Harris stayed within striking distance.

‘We had a real good car in the beginning, It kind of went away late,” Shebester said of his sprinters handling. “Luckily we had a good starting spot with that good cushion coming off of four, and got out there quick.”

While Shebester ran out front the race for second was close. Terry Easum made at Harris and took over second on lap 28 only to have Harris take it back. Sheldon Barksdale then charged into third pushing Easum to fourth at the finish. Alison Slaton rounded out the top five.

Brandon Fogle has been tough to beat lately in the B-Mod division and was the case again Friday. Fogle drive from sixth starting position into the lead to win his fifth feature. Kevin Lacy followed for second with Jordan Barbee third.

It was a battle early in the factory stock feature with Keith Heaslet leading early. But Dalton Garrison came on late to win for the seventh time.

Wesley Knebel drove to his second straight mini stock victory over points leader Adrien Hickman.
